Mallorca, Balearic Islands

A star of the Mediterranean, the biggest of the Balearic islands is the perfect destination for a family escapade. Mallorca offers the most beautiful secluded beaches, or calas, medieval old towns, remote mountains, and Spanish charm.

RELAX

Just take the car and discover a different cala everyday. This protected secluded beaches, between the mountains and the ocean, are a paradise on earth. My favorite: Cala Llombards. A cove little beach sorrounded by rocks and pines, with crystal clear waters and white sand great for staying all day in the water, or having something at the Chiringuito (beach bar) right on the sand. Not to forget: diving into the water from the rocks.

GETTING LOST

Discovering its magical medieval little towns with ochre flower-clad buildings by foot is the best way to get lost. My favorites are Valldemossa, Sóller, Fornalutx, and Santanyí.

Staying at one of these towns in the mountains is the best way to experience the slow pace of the island, and really feel like a mallorquín. I loved the Sa Bisbal Boutique Hotel in the town of Selva, in a beautifully renovated XVII century building with amazing views to the Sierra de Tramuntana

A PARADISE FOR FOODIES

Spanish food is one of my favorites, and Mallorca also has its own traditional cuisine. For an afternoon snack stop at any bakery and try the Ensaïmadas (a total must), or Coca de Patata (the ones at Ca'n Molinas in Valldemossa are just the best!). For lunch or dinner I love to sit outside a tapas bar and try different things: Tumbet, Coca Mallorquina, Sobrasada (a sausage that is amazing melted on bread), and Mallorcan Empanadas. We loved Bar Bosch in Palma de Mallorca for a tapas lunch close to Santa María Cathedral.

ALL IN A BASKET

Every day on the island I went from beach, to beautiful town, to a market, and to tapas bar, so the Rosario bag was the perfect choice for Mallorca. Now I get why women in Mallorca don't go anywhere without their capazo (basket bag).
